Road to Sanity

I walked to the bathroom., I pulled my toothbrush from the cupboard and put some tooth paste on it and I looked up to the mirror with my mouth slightly open to allow the brush in..And it happened,
One by one my teeth parted ways from my gums and fell to the wash basin..Tut,..tut,tut,tut......tut..In no time, I was standing.gaping at a really dark hollow space in my mouth.......

This was a dream i woke up from this monday morning...Care to interpret my dream??

JOTHIKAFICATION

The two to-do things at the very top of my never-to-do list is
1. Never-ever shut down my blog.EVER
2. Never-ever booze.EVERRRRRR.
As shameless I am for making you all read this having spoken like Revolver Rita(as lakshmi puts it) in my previous post, for I am guilty as well in breaking the truce with my never-to-do list.No matter how situations may twist and present itself, no matter how downhill my life may go,I swore to the gods of internet,blogging,facebooking,orkuting,tamil-matrimony.com and the vices that I would slit my throat before the day dawns when I shut down this space. The same holds good for point number 2 as well. But here i am as guilty as charged.
WARNING:The forth coming lines you read will be a confession of sorts.
Point 1: Now tat you are all reading this post, its an unspoken, undeclared statement that I'm back blogging.YES. I'm BACK. Feels good to say it. Not a day had gone by since my very-lame-dramatic-closing post without me hitting my blog atleast twice a day going through all your comments for my previous posts and laughing manically reading em' all  in my lonely cubicle at work. It hurt to even think all that was history.I jerked two tears everytime the thought struck. buuuuuuuhuuuuuu!!!..But now I'm back, its immaterial why I went slightly cukkoo in the head to go offline suddenly. Thanks to some really nice souls in our blogger hood clan and some liberal usage of threatening words by them to return back to blogging.I'm ever so obligedged to you all.No words.Big fan of all you guys reading!
Prologue: I'm 48kgs in weight and 5 4" in height. I call myself slim, my friends say im thin, my  mom says "God drew a line with a pencil in his left hand and thats my daughter"
Point 2: Ahem, the object of this post. Last week,my mom announced in an exasperated tone "Aaru maasathula,Yen ponnu kundu aaganum".I didnt realise the effect of that statement until my aunt came home with a bottle of red wine yesterday and placed it with a tud on my computer table as i was feverishly typing away on my lappy. I glanced at the bottle at the corner of my eye and instantly knew where the inspiration behind the bottle came from.I shot a stare at my mom who was sulking behind my aunt.
"Side-dish kondu varale?",i asked sarcastically.
My aunt plunged into a very well rehearsed speech written and directed by my mom of how I would finally put on weight if I had a "cup" of it everyday before dinner for six whole months and I would look like jothika in the process."JOTHIKAFICATION",she called it.I wish it was that easy. The dark colored bottle stood on the edge of the table.,that wasnt the scariest part.It was the extent to which my mom would go to "fatten" me up that scared me.Bharathi kanda pudumai Amma yengal Amma.I would'nt be surprised if my mom shoved a funnel in my mouth and forced the liquid down my system and I'd blotted up instantly and all her dreams would come true. And I would do anything to make her dreams come true even if it involved sticking a cycle pump into my mouth. :)

Curtains down

She hid the thing she was carrying well inside the depths of her handbag. One hand securely over the bump of her bag and her other hand ended in a very sweaty fist. Though she comtemplated on this for long, she made her decision overnight. She was gonna end this here and now.She pushed the slightly ajar door and saw her shadow lengthen as the sodium vapour light flooded the room. As the door creaked menacingly around its hinges.,the cradle at the end of the room rocked like a feather floating down.Three long strides into the room, she was looking down into the cradle at the pearly white angel faced creature. She took the thing out of her handbag, aimed the barrel to his temple and pulled the trigger.................. bang! bang!

This is my last post. This blog was my baby. now im killing it.......

Thanks to all for all your comments and support.... the last few months have been great knowing you all.
Thank You.

Botography makes Uncanny very happy!

Beach+A best friend+Nikkon 3000D = A beaming Uncanny!!!

Finally, after days of planning and many overslept mornings, me and my friend made it to the thiruvanmiyur pebbles beach to take shots of the early morning sunrise. But we went a tad late just in time for the sun to settle right over our head. And to add fuel to fire, the day was ever so gloomy.so whatever was clicked that day was all grey and black. Out of the 200 odd shots clicked etho therunathu ithu thaan,...

RaMmm : its not as good as your beach shots, but tried something.... ;) ennala mudinjathu....

And on popular demand, Mr. Crow or miss i dunno.....We did click few crow pics that day...funny that gils asked!!

"How to be happy being single" for dummies.

Being twenty something, single, unmarried is one the daunting phases of a girl's life. You just have to put up with a lot of ppl who you never knew existed until the time, they materialized out of thin air and take the liberty to pop THE QUESTION

"So,when are you getting married?"

There was a time, when this question would give me the blushes. I know you would ask what's there to blush in it?. But those were the days when i was innocently naive ,adakums odukams girl. Later as time flew, I started to fake the blushes just so as to not embarrass the person asking me the embarrassing question.Still later...I faked the blush very obviously much like i'll-punch-you-inyour-face-if you-dont-shutup kinda blush. I hope you get my drift.
So, last week I ran into one of my long lost school frd at pondy bazzar.,After the intial high pitched excited screaming and hugging and the formal "Wow, you look grt", she poped the inevitable. Below is the transcript of our conversation.

Long-lost-frd : Hey...by the way, did you know A and B got married??
Me : Oh yeah, I heard!, they make a good couple.
Long-lost-frd : And also, you remember X and Y?
Me: Vaguely, i lied.
Long-lost-frd : They got married too. X used to be the x of A who married B, who infact was going around with B's frd R.Now R we know had a history of x's before B came to know about it and broke up with R and ended up with A.
Me : (by the time the character 'R' came into the story, I was staring into space at some point jus above her head and hoping this Long-Lost-Frd would get long and lost forever)
After what seemed to be a lengthy monlogue from my frd she poped the inevitable question with a twinkle in her eye,
Long-lost-frd : So, Any good news from your side????????
Me: [Long pause] Ah...there is....Ummm..
I played my time and then i said,
“India won the second test against SA and retains the No:1 spot...”
I would have given a million dollors for a camera in my hand at that very moment. Her expression was priceless. She looked like she took a bite of a whole lemon. For the first time I was having an upper hand in our conversation...
She jus said, "Nee thirunthave maatte!!!!" and waved good-bye. I'm pretty sure she went silently praying not to bump into me anytime in the future. ..hehehe

Looove is in the air....

The morning wind was blowing hard that made her to snuggle up to herself. There he sat next to her., wondering if he could become that wind that caressed her ever so gently. He chanced a glance in her direction. She pretended to be busying with her feet .He was pretty sure she was looking his way just a few moments before. He smiled to himself at the thought.Mustering the courage,He moved close to her.But with the gentle shyness of her kind, She blushed and looked away. His heart beckoned more but his feet seemed to be made of lead glued to the ground. He played his time.An air of inexplicable of lusty love hung over them. The tension was mounting.,the wind speed had picked up whirlpooling the balled papers and plastic covers on the ground. Just when he thought his attempts were futile, She made her move, and crept slowly into his direction....

Suddenly, from nowhere,a plastic clothespin came and hit squarely on my forehead, another one flew in the direction of the pair of crows I was gaping at all this while. My mom came frantically running up the stairs waving both her hands and shooing away the 2 crows romancing on the clothesline.

"Intha kaka -nga attakasam thaanga mudiyale", my mom said in a frustrated tone

"Maa,you shud have seen those 2 crows...they were having a ghujals time in the morning doing gilmah and gilpah"

My mom glared at me from a distant as she was examining the plate of dried red chillies she had kept the previous day on the terrace.Apparently the two crows were seated just above my mom's red chillis plate on the line running across the terrace. There were two miniature sized omlettes like crow shit on the plate.
Oh my gaaaawd...to my dismay, the crows were not infact romancing as I thot but were into somethingelse...

Mom announced she's making red chutney for breakfast as we were climbing down the stairs with the red chilli plates, I made to mental note to skip breakfast..hehe

Ta ta Tagged!

This was a long pending tag from Gils..Apologies for the delay nanba, and moreover tags gives me the creeps. The questions are disturbingly unheard of and also the degree of honesty to be exhibited frightens me slightly..hehe..But this one is fairly straight forward,

The Rules:

1.I must thank the person who gave me the award and list their blog and link it
2.I must list 10 honest things about myself
3.I must put a copy of Honest Scrap logo on my blog
4.I must select atleast 7 8 other worthy bloggers and list their links
5.I must notify the bloggers of the award and hopefully they will follow the above three requirements also.

So Here goes..
Gils nanba, Thanks very much!!!Though your posts are about simple subtle things,You have the quality to make the readers think and go... "Oh yeah..."
u rock!

10 honest things about myself

1. I love dogs
I was once savagely bitten by a dog. Chased down the entire length of the road by a pack of mutts as I rode my favorite bicycle a little too fast. And one actually managed to sink 2 of its molar teeth right into my lower calf muscle. Then on, I came to be known in the neighbourhood as the girl-who-never-obeyed-parents-and-hence-got-bitten-by-a-dog . I never saw the connection. The scar still has a notable sheen on my skin.I was 9 then…

2. I’m a veggie
I was once a pure non-vegetarian.Anything that crawls, creeps, pecks and swims would end on my plate.Everyday. It’s a habit I picked up in Hyderabad, the food heaven. But now, I’ve given it all up. A veggie since 3 months now.It was hard and tempting in the beginning but mastered the art of self control for a thing as petty as food. But my friends’ circle think otherwise. Rumour has it, that im seeing a Brahmin guy that too one-sided. Had myself in stitches when I heard the theory from a friend,.I’m wondering if I should play along such speculations..and see where the story goes…hehe..

3. Hair fear
My second greatest fear is that I’ll lose all my hair soon.I’m already half way there. I sinfully fidget too much with it. Iron it, press it, straighten it, colourise, de-colourise,disentangle, smoothen, neaten, scrub, brush, comb, claw, prune, pluck……are some of the few things I subject my hair to.

4. I love kids
I’m a sucker for kids, babies and children. I can instantly bond with kids of all age. Kids don’t get all judgmental and cynical about things. They keep things simple.1+1=2.Simple.Its something that always fascinates me. When I’m feeling low or stressed out, I don’t shy away from asking the aunties in my neighborhood to let their kids play cricket with me.

5. Cricket is my religion and Sachin is my god (and Shane Watson is my boyfriend) I talk too much cricket for a girl. Its something I got from my dad .My perfect ideal day would be spending time with dad discussing cricket lazing on the couch watching a test match. Ahh bliss..I’ve never seen Michelangelo paint or Mozart perform, but I’ve seen Sachin bat many times. And I feel gifted to be living in the same era as that of Sachin. And I have a thing for Shane Watson, I keep telling my dad that he’s too cute for an all rounder. ;)

6. Shawshank Redemption
This is one masterpiece of a movie that changed my life.Though there's nothing in the movie that I can related myself to. I’ve watched it a zillion times, and everytime Morgan Freeman says the last few lines in the movie.,I cry like a baby..

“ I find I'm so excited, I can barely sit still or hold a thought in my head. I think it's the excitement only a free man can feel, a free man at the start of a long journey whose conclusion is uncertain. I hope I can make it across the border. I hope to see my friend, and shake his hand. I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope.”

I think this wil do, before I put more and more mokkai...Feel like ive written an elaborated "About Me" section...And I tag the below listed great writers ( gils has already tagged most of them )

Chennaigirl
Kannaguonline
Kiran
Carpe diem
R-ambam

In forma pauperis

I heard Mr.Ramalinga Raju( remember him? ex-Chairman of the famed Satyam Computers, inflation king?,Account books cook(er),overstating company assets by $1 billion,kin-pin ...yeah yeah...and more) who also happens to be my ex-ex'ed Chairman has been officially granted the "Pauper" status by the US Investor ligitation.Otherwise known as"in forma pauperis" in Latin.....
It means, he does'nt have to pay the filing fees or any sort of financial obligations and other court costs because of his financial condition. How convenient!!!!!
Anyways, Yesterday was the most awaited day in a long time. Why? Becoause it was salary day.I went without any earning for over 3 months with the company shift fiasco and everything.I've never subjected myself to this kind of torture to jus earn a living for the single person I am.I'm talking about the work i've been doing for the past 1 and half months in my new company. Working late, the 3 hours commute, wakeup even before the dogs on the street,.Things were maniacally going out of control. However the end of month payslip kept me focussed and motivated.
I waited with baited breath for that blessing of a sms that comes announcing the "salary credited" to your account. Also being my first sal and all, I was more than curious to know the on-hand amount. I spent the past couple of weeks caculalting and formulating on how I was gonna spend( ahem....sorry save it).
Come 30th Jan, had a quiet birthday under circumstances. However went on a shopping spree in Puraswalkam and shopped to by heart's content for all my friend's upcoming marraiges. All this lavish shopping was done on my credit card.I kept checking my mobile for that single sms...none watsoever came!
Come 31st Jan,Got my payslip emailed to my official ID this morning. I was releived in a way to see the mail. But no sms came. I checked my account, no transaction was made.On closer look at the payslip, disaster struck. It was not my account details on my salary slip, It was not my bank either. Thank god, the name was mine, but the account number was different.Yes...u guessed it...The amount was creditted to somebody else's account!!! grrrrrrrrrr......Just another day in the life of a god-damned IT professional.
So much for my waiting........I'm officially "in forma pauperis" now.......

PS: There's something unusually similar about the above monkey pic and my DP..no?...I wonder wat is that!

The beginning of the end

She locked the door from the inside,And sat herself on the edge of the bed.The surface of her palm sweated profusely under the grip of the tiny bottle she was holding. The dark yet the transperant liquid within didnt look tasty. But does taste matter at this moment.
Looking back on her life, She could see only scars. Scars of pain ripped open very too often.
"I hope its all over soon", She mumbled to herself and gulped the contents of the bottle in one draught..
At first, She didnt feel a thing...then with a pang of pain , her throat burnt and her eyes watered as she frantically supressed the urge to throw up...It was the servant maid who was the first to see in the morning..There she lay sprawled on the floor with drools from her mouth as an empty bottle lay rolling a little distance away from her reach..
The previous night was the first time she boozed,... the first shot of tequila.....the finest brand there is . :)

No more polambings!

Two weeks into my new job, I’ve been running like a chicken with its head cut off.
Over 12 hours of work,3 hours of commute and eye lids as heavy as lead-That’s me for the past 14days.My typical day starts at 5am in the morning and winds up at 12am in the morning next day. That explains all the chicken run I’ve been doing. But I cant ask more for a better start for the new year. I’m self sufficient that way. Though the commute and the work timing is near impossible, I have other things that nullifies the minuses.I’m happy!
However everyone around me never misses an opportunity to crib and yap about how others are doing so well in life and their’s suck.Post recession situation, no hike, no promotion , long travel , no signal in office , no pickle for curd rice in canteen,no tissues in washrooms are popularly discussed topics. And they happily end their discussion finally quoting “The grass is always greener on the other side. It drives me up the wall when they blame it on the GRASS.Poor thing!
I understand its perfectly humane to crib and complain. Neanderthals as we are, we all have monkey minds. When you go to restaurants, very often the dish what the other person orders will look tastier than what’s on our plate. We are monkey minded that way. But most often , the people who yip-yap like this to me, are those in better roles with fat pay checks commuting in cars, and don’t work for extended hours. Primarily they have all the things I don’t have or yet to have. But what’s with you people, are you so selfishly obsessed in sharing your tantrums that you forget to even think who your talking to.,or how that person may take it.All the things you have and complain about maybe someone’s dreams and hopes of tomorrow.Dont you feel ashamed of the act of putting down someone’s hopes. Maybe your not! That is why u always end ur argument saying “The grass is always greener on the other side”.Shame on you!
I don’t wish to brag, but on my side there was no grass at all 6 months ago., Today, however, I have learned from my impetuous ways of old. Learnt from my own experience. Most importantly, I am not cribbing.
And my message to you is this: Maybe you shouldn’t too.Even if you do do, watch who you crib to….

A true strory...

The dawn was a translucent one., the sky sinfully shone in orange and grey hues . Hazy dew was the order of the day. Everything about the weather was dull ,cold and dark, as if the sun had taken a day off work. But nothing today is going to dither me from meeting Him.After all these years of piled guilt and agony. I was determined for a peaceful sleep tonight.

I let the water from the shower wash over me, wash away the tears. The path from the tears that streamed down my face every night. I only wish, he knew the depth of every drop shed. I clad myself in my mom’s red saree. Red was his favorite color. My mom called it the “lucky one”, the one she was wearing when she met my dad. Saree is not my thing really. But deep down I am a timid girl, no matter how confident I portrayed myself to the outside world.A false being.Only he knew the person I was inside.Only he understood me more than me.

I kicked started by bike, the engine ruefully refused to wakeup. It felt like a bad omen.My body ached devoid all the sleep I didn’t have for the past few days.I had to muster all the little strength left in me on to my legs to kick start my bike. And then, with a familiar sound the engine roared.I then threaded the familiar roads and streets which I was so used to and travelled so many times yet it seemed so unfamiliar now. Everything had changed with time, the shops lining the street and the little houses, now advertised modern architecture. Once bumpy mud roads were replaced with gravelly tar stricken roads which shown mirages in the sunlight. Everything changed with time. I changed with time. The vehicle dutifully stirred its way as if it knew where the driver was destined to be. But, my thoughts were far away from the road.

Will he forgive me?
Will he accept me back after all these years?

“I don’t want you in my life, I don’t need you in my life”,

I said to him on a stormy night, 3 years back. I still vividly remember the pained smile he had on his face when I shouted those words,. as if he already knew that I would regret my decision 3 years later. And here I am standing in nothing but, deep remorse for my past.

There was small group of people outside his place. He is a busy man, he always was. People always seek him for help. and he was well known not to disappoint the ones who came to him.I walked into his place with small reluctant steps like a child on her first day at school.I couldn’t see him with all the crowd inside, I wondered what the occasion was. I craned my neck to get a glimpse of him. And suddenly,as if my thoughts were magically intercomed, the crowd surrounding him cleared and paved way for me to walk ahead.

And there he was majestically seated at the end of the hall, with the same mysterious smile he always had. My knees weakened as I got closer and I felt tears rolling down my cheeks.

I knelt and prayed for HIS forgiveness for all my ignorance and prejudice of my past. I cried and cried for what it felt like an eternity. I could feel the eyes of all the other devotees in the temple, on me. I cared less. All it mattered was, I was with Him again and he is my saviour. He alone is my LORD.

P.S: I'm currently suffering from newyearito-over-partying-fatigue-syndrome where the patient often tends to post some earlier published posts if she/he cant come up with a new one. This was my maiden attempt to short story writing, if it can be called as one.,For some reasons this writeup is very close to my heart.Reminds me of the good ol' times!! So starting this year afresh with a reminiscent held so dear.

A toothless judiciary system!!!!! S.H.A.M.E

He has to be castrated in public.
He will burn in hell.

Read on,

Below is an excerpt of the article on ndtv.com

Two teenage girls, best friends and neighbours, watched television as Steffi Graf battled Monica Seles on August 12, 1990. Itching to imitate those serves and volleys, 14-year-old Ruchika Girhotra and Aradhana Parkash headed straight to the tennis court in their hometown Chandigarh.
It turned into a day that would scar them so badly, that one of them would be pushed to death.
During their game, they were summoned to the office of the President of the Haryana Lawn Tennis Federation. He was also one of Haryana's most-senior policemen. S P S Rathore asked Aradhana to leave his office. When she returned, he was molesting her best friend. He stopped when he realised he had been caught.
Ruchika's own mother had died when she was 11. She confided in Aradhana's family.
The Parkashes immediately adopted Ruchika's battle as their own; a battle that pitted them against a powerful policeman with hefty political connections. A police inquiry found Rahore guilty. Not surprisingly, his own force refused to take any action against him.
Men who followed them everywhere threatened the families. Ruchika found herself expelled from school three years later. Her brother was arrested for half a dozen car thefts. Overwhelmed by what her family was going through, Ruchika, now 17, killed herself by drinking poison. The cases against her brother were dropped after that. The Girhotras left Chandigarh.
Aradhana, however, vowed to fight for her friend. Her family won a CBI inquiry for the case in 2000.
But the charges against Rathore were a pale version of what Aradhana wanted. Instead of abetment of suicide amounting to murder, Rathore was accused of molestation.
The CBI said that because Ruchika had killed herself three years after the molestation, her death could not be linked to Rathore. Oddly enough, the CBI's own chargesheet contradicts that. It says, "The investigation has also disclosed that after the incident of molestation of Ms Ruchika remained confined to her house and remained depressed. Later, she committed suicide."
Through this, Rathore's career flourished. He retired as Haryana's most-senior policeman, the Director General of Police, in 2002.
Om Prakash Chautala, who was the chief minister during this time, denies that he sanctioned Rathore's promotions. Chautala told NDTV on Tuesday that his sympathies lie with Ruchika's family, and that he wishes the verdict against Rathore had been more severe.
That verdict has stumped everyone - six months awarded on Monday to a man found guilty of molesting a teenager. Rathore was granted bail immediately, so he will spend no time in prison. He says he will appeal against the verdict. His other comment: "It's a very old issue. Forget about it now."

Chennai's new fashion statement.

The rain god is back with a bang in Chennai and today was one of the coldest days of the year by far.You may think i'm exaggerating. Maybe I am.hehe..But u cant stop a chennaite from bragging when the mercury drops even just a milli.Trust me, today's weather was "romantic". It rained in the wee hours in the morning.,but not good enough for schools to be called off.I had a bet with the kids in the block here.Half yearly exams are on and they dearly prayed for a holiday!.I won the bet (muahahaaa... i know im evil!!).

Anyways, now that I'm unemployed and all that I have loads of time to kill in the evenings. I decided to hit Usman Road around 6pm to porikify some cheap trinkets and stuffs.Since the weather was good, I decided to walk it up.I didnt even cross my street when i noticed something was amiss.Seriously!!. People and fellow passerbys sported something funny on/over their ears.It was a flab of stretched fluffy woolen cloth on both the ears connected from behind the head with a flexible thingy. It wasnt the same from person to person..some pink, fanta orange and some with the nike tick on both ears. I even spotted one with Vijay's vettaikaran print on it.
Even the "street corner " tea kadai bhai was wearing it..

"Bhai, rendu boomer thaanga",I asked. I didnt shift my gaze from the hideous thing on his ears. His was military camouflage pattern.

"Bhai, Athu enna? unga kaadhule???", I piped curiosity beckoning.

"Ithuva??...Earmuffs ma"... As he adjusted the thing with both his hands so proudly showing it off (I cudnt help rolling my eyes)

"WHAT the heck ??? ear muffs ah?..Why are you wearing it??? "

I could sense. He smirked at my ignorance of the most "in" thing in chennai. I smirked harder when he failed to catch the sarcasm in my voice of the above previous question.

Thats when it dawned on me. Everyone on the street had one pair on.The road side romeo's played carom board, all with a pair of earmuffs. The paatis and thathas all sported colorful muffs on their way to the temple. Platform stalls on usman road were selling these earmuffs like hot cakes. Two for twenty five bucks. People thronged around these stalls to pick the more fancy/colorful ones than the previous customer. They were'nt too embarrassed to even smack it on their ears then and there.I understand its cold in chennai,I know its raining and all that. But EARMUFFS IN CHENNAI...really?? you must be kidding me.Grrr........

I muttered "madness" under my breath as I returned home and opened the gate only to see my dad reading the evening newspaper in the portico with a pair of black earmuffs on......

No further comments .I end my post here!

When words fail you....

There are moments in life when words fail you.
No matter how hard you try, there are certain questions posed by people which can put your heart in your mouth. You just simply open and close your mouth hoping words will mysteriously form out of thin air. But there's no escaping the wrath and the agony such questions which can even make you ponder about your very existence and its purpose.

I, for one had the misfortune to be the victim of one such situation when all the languages in the world failed me…..

Naan Asin thaan da!!!!

So, the other day I was strolling down the saidapet railway station.Though I live at close proximity to the Mambalam station, I prefer taking my trains from saidapet. Primarily because I hate surfing through the humongous human waves pouring into the famed Ranganathan street day in day out. You don’t have to really walk to the Mamabalam station, you will be glided by the crowd in and out effortlessly.Only thing, you can almost smell the sweat off the person’s head walking ahead of you and the person behind can smell yours. At any given point of time, someone will be playing the game “Lets-see-who-stamps-my-feet-harder” game without your permission. Now, if you’re a girl.,needless to say, there will be moments like “Ouch, What was that”..or “who the f**k was that”…………..you get my drift right?!?!?

So like I said, the other day I was strolling down saidapet station. It was around 3 in the afternoon with not many people around except a few pairs of heads sitting on sunbaked cement benches oblivious to the Chennai weather almost glued to eachother discussing Global warming issues and climatic changes in Siberia. I had to take the overhead walkway to go towards the other side of the track. That’s when I saw him.

A man in his mid forties or late…not more. He was frantically grooving around the place where he was standing throwing his arms in mid air as if searching for something. On closer look, I realized he was had dark glasses on.He was a blind man.Not only that, he was asking for help as far as his soft voice could carry for someone to guide him through the over head bridge. I was a good 15-20 meters away from him.Apparently he got down from the train which just left the platform. As I watched, he continued grooving around with his hands and slowly staggering sideways precariously close to the edge of the platform.

One pair sitting on the bench close to where the blindman was, were still discussing Global issues with heads together, arms arnd each other in broad daylight. “Buggers!!!”.
I sprint the distance between me and the blindman and in no time I held his foreman and pulled him away from the sloppy platform.

Thanks madam, Ennai konjam bridge kitta vittudinga please”, he said immediately and shifted the grip of my hand from his left to his right since he was carrying a huge cloth bag in his left.

He clasped my hand hard and held on to it for dear life.Frankly, I’ve never held a guy’s hand before except my dad’s ofcourse. So I was kinda going numb from his grip., as we slowly walked down the long deserted platform. He took small child-like strides, so I had to reduce my pace as well.He stumbled slightly, on a slate of mosaic that was detached up from the floor. “Stupid me,I should have have told him that there was a bump.

Thereon, I said pallam iruku inga”, “step varuthu”, “right turn”,”left turn” where ever necessary., as we slowly climbed up and down the almost disintegrating steps of the saidapet OH walkway .Man, It felt like to have walked up and down the everest. Wonder how they do it everyday.

On reaching the foot of the stairs, he said “Romba Nandri madam, and walked away briskly towards the left of the road while I went right.

Suddenly,someone screamed,“Ghajini, Asin-nu nenapo manasula….

I wheeled around to see the source of the compliment. It was the jerk on the bench that was discussing global issues.

Ammam da…vaada, Naan Asin thaan da….

He muttered something like “Decent ah irukunu paatha, ponnu sema local-a pesuthu paara

Ading goyya……Poda dei…..

He went cowering behind the dupappta of the girl he was with…. :-)

Shi(f)t happens!

They say you’re whole life reels in front of your eyes moments before you die. This is not something like that, This is not anything like that. Not even tad closer to that, Its not that at all. But what would flash in front your eyes moments after you quit your job.A job you were almost wedded to for 3 odd years and held on to your dear life., even when its ex-chairman was playing chess in one Chanchalguda(that’s somewhere in AP) Central jail according to sources.I assume you would have guessed who I’m talking abt.
Its like this.. I quit my job last week.

It was a decision taken on impulse, though pondered upon and contemplated for so long, I can rightfully say it was planned.I'm a little disappointed that it took me almost half a year to let go.Now that’s a whole different can of worms.Lets not get into that now.

So, I was there at the reception of my office building doing all the closing formalities., like submitting my ID card et all., and with a glazed eye as my 3 years of worklife reeled in ultra slow mo in alternate black and white and sepia like a some age old movie with Illayaraja for BGM…

Reel 1: The image of the guy who walks around from the cafeteria to the sports room to the library to the pantry with his hands always in his pockets. Its a mystery to everyone in my ODC.I for one, invariably get reminded of a joke in one tamil movie. :)

Reel 2: The tragedy that befell Miss.Ju when she called me on the phone to tell that she got accidently locked from inside the loo and I went charging in to rescue her like some super girl only to realize I broke and barged in to the loo in the 2nd floor while Miss Ju was in the 3rd floor. There was a lot of heroine-like screaming that day in the ladies wash room.

Reel 3:When Mrs.M’s baby was due in a month’s time., andher water broke prematurely and she was adamant to go in an auto to the hospital than wait for a cab. It took us ages to talk her out of “delivering-the-baby-in-the-auto” idea. She was blessed with a baby boy that same night.

Reel 4: Project financial report presentation’s 5th slide had a beaming picture of my boss with all her jewels, adigai, odiyanam and all crap she and her ancestors ever owned. When the 5th slide was up in the huge screen, My boss was flushed to the dismay of 30 odd ppl in the conference room.Only 2 ppl knew how that picture got into the presentation, one, the author of this blog and Miss Ju.

Madam, Please hand over your ID card…..”, guffawed the almost inaudible security guy

"I already gave the odiyanam, errrmm…I mean the ID card.",I blurted coming back to my senses.

“You can keep the tag mam”, the security guy smirked.

“What am I to do with this, can’t even hang myself with this”, you have it as my Memorabilia.

And I walked out of the building singing “Rain drops falling on my head”,

Raindrops keep fallin' on my head

But that doesn't mean my eyes will soon be turnin' red

Cryin's not for me

'Cause I'm never gonna stop the rain by complainin'

Because I'm free

Nothin's worryin' me

As the hands-in-the-pocket guy went past me…. With his hands u know where………………….

I mean his pockets!!!!

So long…..Satyam!!

goin thro' a patch...

I got a call from my ophthalmologist in the morning. I had one the busiest 5 weekdays without even having to go to work. So I planned to slumber by daylight for the most part of the weekend. But the call changed everything. I dragged myself in the dirtiest of jeans with a v-neck red tee to go with. I landed at the doctor’s desk at 12:20 am for a 10 am appointment. She eyed me like she would see an insect with disgust.Three hours later I had my eye operated., I was lying on the bed looking up at the ceiling through one eye and the other eye nicely patched up.I looked like a pirate, who was missing his parrot.

My folks were pretty mad, when I landed myself in an auto with an eye patch and saying mater of factly, that I had a surgery. I had a tough time trying to get my parent's reactions through jus one eye.Neverthless, the yip yap continued before it finally ceased at bed time.I wasnt tired, but I went and seated myself in my room.A nap would not do any bad. And so I napped till midnight that day, until when a sudden pain shot right through my eye.Yes,the anesthetic finally wore off. The pain in my head was excruciating .I've never knew thats like it to feel an eye hurt.,I complained of head ache to my doc."Its your eye aching",she corrected me. It was onething to feel physical pain with your eyes open,.atleast u can see the pain., But it’s a different story to feel pain with your eyes closed. It was like someone had cut open your eye, and put a pebble into it and stitched your eye-lids to-gether…I know, it pains to even read it…

The patch was not to be removed for 3 days and guess what, it was the blissful 3 days in months. I informed my boss, that I will be working from home for the next week.,for which she muttered something like “as-long-as the-work-is-done”.I didn’t give a damn,I dropped a mail, to my onsite co-ordinator, that I will not be available to fix your nasty bugs for a week. I did everything with one eye thereon….

Watching TV and laptop was forbidden for 2 weeks. I watched “The ugly truth” , Wrong turn 1,2,3 movies with my bedroom door securely closed. I even drew an eye over the patch with my eye liner, It came out well..Only thing was, I got blasted royally by my mom for my silliness though dad found it very amusing.

Now, I ‘ve got my patch removed. Both the eyes are intact and working. So much for my patchy days...
