Chennai –yil oru mazhaikalam

Strange thing this ,the one called the human mind, how it can spring up a whole new world of thoughts , emotions and reminiscence even when your soaking wet to the skin, sitting on ur bike in a traffic clogged  road, with overflowing manholes right below ur feet. And hair plastered to your face in the downpour and the smoke from the exhaust of the bike in front of u right on ur face……you just cant help but appreciate how romantic it is, when it pours in Chennai…and you smile to urself at the very thought- “Life can’t get any better than this

I was returning home after a long hard day at office, it was 8:30pm at Madhya Kailash. It was raining cats and dogs, hampsters and cows. So much for my useless pride of the habit of not using RainCoats,Just a flimsy duppata on my head which definitely wasn’t serving its purpose and Enya’s “Only Time”, faintly playing in my player, I felt drops of rain now flowing from my forehead down  the bridge of my nose and dripping from its tip. I fancied a glance at my watch, Its been exactly 17mins I’ve been standing in the same place on the same god forsaken road. My stomach cramps backed by a terrible back pain was definitely not helping matters. The rain floods on the road, was now ankle deep.

Suddenly and momentarily it happened. All the noise around, the sound of the vehicles blaring, the rain pounding suddenly ceased, As if someone muted the audio using a remote.I slowly got lost in deep thoughts...

With Enya playing as the BGM…I pondered…..

How I wish, I had someone to offer a ride back home,
How I wish, I had someone who could call or sms me to know, if I’m
 safe in the rain.,
How I wish,I had someone to lend me his jacket in the cold.,
How I wish, I had someone to watch “Varanam Aiyram” with on rainy Saturday afternoon.,
How I wish, I had someone to have molaka bhajji with on a stormy besant nagar beach…………….

The next thing I knew, I had cold, slimy water splashed full on my face from a Santro driven by an ass**** on the other side of the road who chose to demonstrate his driving skills in the current conditions. I also got a mouthful of the same questionable water which was just few seconds back, flowing on the road.It took me some time to get back from my dream world to the nasty Madhya Kailash junction. Forcing myself not to think about the possible things that may or may not have mixed with this splashed rain water, I spat onto the road cursing loudly at the moron driving the car. I frantically looked around if anyone had noticed the little fiasco I had.. hehe…thank god..no one did…
And then, the vehicles movement eased out, as the traffic started flowing…
I could’nt stop from laughing at myself all through my ride back home. Its crazy how rain can play with your mind, even at the ficklest of circumstances you are in. Nevertheless, Life goes on…

Life is nothing when we get everything. But Life is everything when we miss something.
